Half-Hearted Isn't Enough

My heart
isn't in the mood
for
mediocrity

half-hearted
isn't enough

I have never seen
a half-hearted bird
or
a mediocre mountain

all
the clouds and stars
I have ever seen
have given it
their all

I am the only one
who
has been
holding back

until
now.

Picnics

I have been on many picnics
in days gone by
the outside of my heart
wrapped carefully
in its hamper

sat in the shade
to avoid
the midday sun
enjoyed it
you know
as far as picnics go

now
the inside of my heart
has thrown the hamper
out the window
just like litter

we career off drunkenly
trespass wildly

picnics have turned into
orgies of delight
and the midday sun
feels like balm
on
a parched and prickly skin.
